CIOB and MMC Ireland announce strategic partnership
On 5 September 2024, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) announced a strategic partnership with MMC Ireland to drive the modernisation of Ireland’s construction sector.
The collaboration follows the publication of Modern Methods of Construction: barriers and benefits for Irish housing’ earlier this year and will promote greater use of MMC across the industry.
Caroline Gumble, Chief executive officer at CIOB, said: “Over the course of 2024 the CIOB in Ireland has dedicated considerable time and effort to making the case for a policy environment that facilitates the wider adoption of MMC in the residential sector.
“This partnership with MMC Ireland will allow us to extend our message beyond residential, to all aspects of the built environment. At CIOB we are very appreciative of the many knowledgeable and committed members we have in Ireland. Their contributions in sharing their expertise with the wider industry, their collaborative approach and their involvement in many significant projects all help us in driving the industry forward."
CIOB’s research has examined the barriers to greater use of MMC in Ireland with a focus on the residential sector. This is to improve delivery in terms of speed, quality, and environmental impact. Thanks to the work of the CIOB and others, the benefits of MMC are now widely acknowledged amongst political and industry stakeholders.
Paul Tierney, chief executive officer at MMC Ireland, added: “MMC Ireland represents 90 companies and growing, across all aspects of MMC delivery. We are a knowledge bridge between industry, government and other clients.
“This strategic partnership with the CIOB, the world’s largest professional body for construction management and leadership, allows both bodies to work together openly, to evolve and improve MMC delivery across Ireland and beyond. There is a real opportunity for Ireland to become a centre of Excellence in Europe and partnering with the CIOB will help us achieve that goal.”
The CIOB and MMC Ireland will now work together in advocating for the creation of policy, regulatory, and procurement environments which fosters the growth of MMC in Ireland. This knowledge-sharing partnership will facilitate a joined-up approach to MMC among different industry bodies in Ireland, event partnerships, and joint research initiatives.
MMC Ireland is the leading voice of the expanding MMC sector in Ireland, dedicated to promoting and advancing the interests of the sector. MMC Ireland’s mission is to provide a unified voice, advocacy, and support to help MMC sector pioneers grow and succeed.
'This partnership with MMC Ireland will allow us to extend our message beyond residential, to all aspects of the built environment. At CIOB we are very appreciative of the many knowledgeable and committed members we have in Ireland.' Caroline Gumble, CEO, CIOB.
